Halloween Special: If You've Got It, Haunt It!

10/26/2017

For some, October is a month of pumpkins, horror movies and quirky accessories. For others, it’s the month of Halloween -- the much anticipated day of ‘dress-up.’ However, deciding whether to be cute or sexy, scary or not scary, can be a daunting task. How scary is too scary? Is going all-out on some latex too far? The answer is: NO! Grab that latex and paint yourself from head to toe!  Halloween is the one time per year we can spray fake blood all over our clothes, coat our face in glitter and have some special effects fun. This year, instead of grabbing those trusted cat ears and smudging on your favorite eyeliner, try something new and have fun doing it!

We’ve rounded up our favorite on-screen women for a little inspiration. From Hollywood fashion to chick-flick classic, we’re exploring looks from some of our favorite movie and television icons. That’s right, we’re talking from Audrey Hepburn to Cher from “Clueless.” You can choose to keep these cute, or you can check out our tips at the end of the post if you prefer a little ‘Halloween makeup.’ No matter if you like it classic or scary, just remember to have fun and rock this year’s costume with confidence!

High Fashion Halloween Costumes!

Lights, camera, action!  Nothing says high fashion like the big screen!  No matter if these beauties were on film, or depicted in them, they all have something in common… impeccable Hollywood style!

Frida Kahlo

Frida Kahlo is considered to be one of the greatest female Mexican artists for her bold and vibrant self-portraits and folk art style that touched on identity and classism in Mexican society, among other topics. Salma Hayek perfectly embodied her in the 2002 film, “Frida,” and you can too! All you’ll need is a flower crown and her recognizable mono-brow.

Marilyn Monroe

One of the most iconic sex symbols of the fifties, Marilyn was praised for both her curves and her roles in iconic films such as “How to Marry and Millionaire” and “Gentlemen Prefer Blondes.” She continues to be an icon today, more than half a decade after her death. This classic bombshell oozes ‘big picture.”

Audrey Hepburn

Considered a high priority watch for any fashion lover! Because of her outfits and  playful acting. Audrey Hepburn is a classic icon for many. Dressing as Holly Golightly from Breakfast at Tiffany’s will never go out of style. Other movies, like “Roman Holiday” and “My Fair Lady”, feature her other iconic looks.

The Movie Cult Classics

The ultimate chick-flick guide for Halloween. From “Mean Girls” to “Sex and The City,” these recognizable women have all provided us with laughter, great fun and wardrobe goals!
Sex & The City

As one of the greatest high fashion franchises to date, the movies (and of course, the sitcom), have provided us with enough fashion inspiration to last a lifetime. The closet that Mr. Big built for Carrie is something most women can only dream of! Whether you are ‘a Samantha,’ ‘a Miranda,’ ‘a Charlotte,’ or ‘a Carrie,’ you can’t go wrong with Carrie’s iconic pink tutu for an instantly recognizable look. Or, grab your girlfriends and represent all for characters for an amazing group costume.
Clueless

“As if?!,” was Cher’s unforgettable answer to everything -- this 1995 classic features some of our fashion faves. What other decade than the nineties could you wear a bright yellow plaid skater skirt with a matching blazer? Iggy Azalea and Charlie XCX nailed her take on the movie in their 2014 “Fancy” music video. Whether you’re ‘a Dionne’ or ‘a Tai,’ this movie is the ultimate in 90s-style fancy dressing.
Pretty Woman

“Pretty Woman” is definitely in the top 10 of chick-flicks. Yes, this movie is about a ‘working girl’ named Vivian (played by Julia Roberts), who is saved by businessman Edward (played by Richard Gere) -- but she saves him right back! Black lined eyes, red lips, a platinum-blonde wig and some thigh-highs will complete this look.
Grease

“Tell me about it .. STUD!” The famous story of Olivia Newton-John being sewn into her skin-tight pants for the icon closing scene of “Grease” will forever baffle me. Didn’t we all want to be one of the Pink Ladies after that? Plus, any excuse to tease our hair and sport a red lip will forever be a must on Halloween.
Mean Girls

Evil takes on a new meaning with Regina George, the ‘burn book,’ plus the added two-faced comments to everyone she meets; Regina is the definition of every girl’s nightmare in school. This Halloween, you could be the Damian among the Regina’s, or your crew could show up wearing the ultimate squad costume! While recent years has seen the rise in Regina costumes, 2017 has seen the rise in Karen’s own iconic Halloween costume -- a mouse, duh!
The Addams Family

The love between Gomez and Morticia will always be, in the strangest way possible, one I admire. Were they undead? Or just extremely devoted to Halloween? We will never know. But, we know we love Wednesday and her iconic quote, “I’ll stop wearing black when they make a darker color!” Embrace your inner Wednesday with two braids, a white collar, a black school-girl dress, black tights and black shoes.
Jessica Rabbit

From the well-known movie “Who Framed Roger Rabbit,” Jessica Rabbit is the sexually- provocative character who works as a singer in a Los Angeles nightclub. But don’t forget, she’s not bad, she’s just drawn that way! To embody this character, be on the lookout for a shiny red sequin gown with a matching, fire-red wig.

2017 Pop Culture Films

Wonder Woman

From 1941 to today, Wonder Woman will always be a strong and powerful female force within the DC Universe. What isn’t there to like about dressing up as an empowering, amazonian goddess? Suit up and show everybody who’s boss!
Games of Thrones

Halloween is coming… Daenerys Targaryen is one of the most powerful female characters on TV at the moment. She’s graced our screens for seven seasons, and her wardrobe keeps getting better. This past season, Daenerys layered up her look with strong, structured jackets. With fall winds blowing, we have no complaints about this bold costume that brings the heat in more ways than one!
Beauty & The Beast

For the Disney in all of us, 2017 saw the return of Belle, played by Emma Watson (Another incredible woman!) Be the Belle of the Halloween ball and wear gold from head to toe.
American Horror Story

From Asylum, Coven, Freak Show, Hotel, Roanoke to Cult, this show is filled with clever costumes for Halloween. My favorite season was when Lady Gaga was featured in “Hotel.” With the elegant purple dress paired with silver gloves and the sharpest of winged liner, who can argue with the ‘Born This Way’ star?
IT

Yes, IT has been around every corner of the internet this year, from the build-up to the release. If you don’t want to wear a bright orange wig with pointed yellow teeth, then opt for a glamorous clown -- all you need is makeup and lots of glitter!
The Mummy

Things have come a long way since wrapping yourself in toilet roll for the ‘Mummy’ look. 2017 saw the rise of Egyptian Princess Ahmanet. While it isn’t the most conventional Princess costume, it is definitely perfect for Halloween!

Spook-up Your Look With A Little Fake Blood !

Whatever you decide to go as for Halloween, fake blood is a trusty sidekick to add an essence of scare to any costume. A Bride? Add some blood and you’re a Zombie bride! A cheerleader? One quick blood spatter and you’re a Zombie Cheerleader!
