This year, I decided to have a little fun with our Butterfly Issue. Since our Butterfly Issue is all about change, transformation, and growth; I figured there was no better time than the present to change it up. After pondering over it for a bit, I thought, wouldn't it be cool if we did a livestream event?! What started out as a few interviews over a weekend, turned into a week-long 'live' issue featuring Love U Magazine contributors and several guest speakers.
The event kept getting bigger as excitement began to build. We started to promote the event on our social media channels and through Facebook ads. Best yet, people were actually signing up! I couldn't have planned it better if I had tried. And then, it all fell apart.
Days before the event was scheduled to begin, I found out that Hurricane Irma was headed my way. Oh, and not just headed my way, but scheduled to make landfall the very day the livestream issue was supposed to start. Oh my!
So, we canceled the event and eventually rescheduled, although rescheduling the event didn't come without any hiccups. Many of the women weren't able to accommodate the new event dates due to scheduling conflicts, but somehow, we still pulled the event it off.
I had a ton of fun with everyone who attended live and I also loved receiving your supporting emails. No, the event wasn't void of issues (tech issues, cancellations, no-shows, etc.), but I still had a blast! I had a chance to connect and network with our audience and our talented guest speakers. Best yet, my contributor team blew me away with their segments and dedication.
Was it a challenge? Oh yeah! But, was it worth it? Heck Yeah! What I learned, is that sometimes you can plan out every possible scenario, but when a hurricane comes, all the planning in the world means nada (nothing). The funny thing is, the theme of the Butterfly Issue allows Love U Magazine to inspire our readers and celebrate change, transition and growth. Little did I know, I would be the one getting the lesson! When life throws you a curveball, sometimes you catch it and sometimes you don't. I learned that it doesn't matter if you catch it or even drop it. What matters is that you pick the ball up and throw it back. That's all that counts!
Here's to 'throwing back the ball' and cheers to everyone who took part in both the digital and livestream version of the Butterfly Issue! If you missed the event, take a peek at four of the videos below. And, you can still pick up an all-access-video pass if you want to catch up on all the video sessions. Enjoy!
